What actually happens, step by step
Below is the real sequence — what you do in a browser, what your child does on their phone, and what comes back to you afterwards. Setting it up takes about ten minutes, and you'll want your child's phone next to you for part of it.
Two devices, two jobs
You use ChapterLens in a browser. Your child uses the Android app, and only the app — there's no student website to log into. The split is deliberate: what your child gets is a study app, and what you get is the record of what they actually understood.

You sign in with Google, type your child's first name, pick their class, and tick the box confirming you're their parent and consenting to a child account. That's the whole form. ChapterLens creates their profile and starts a 20-day free trial on the spot — no card, nothing to cancel.

The step that needs their phone

After signing up you land on a three-item checklist — nothing to explore yet, just the things that have to happen before your child can start.
With their phone in front of you, you generate a code: six characters, good for 24 hours, usable once. Your child opens ChapterLens on their Android phone and types it in. No password for them to remember, and no account for them to create. The app isn't in the Play Store yet — we're setting it up with pilot families one at a time, so we'll walk you through getting it onto the phone.

Inside one concept
Watch, or skip straight to the quiz
Every concept opens with four tabs: Video, Quiz, Master and FAQs. The video is short — a minute or two — but the quiz is unlocked from the start. If your child already knows this, they can go straight at it, get two of the three right, and move on. We don't make a confident kid sit through a video to prove it.
Failing is what makes the video compulsory. Miss the quiz and the video becomes the way forward, with a minimum watch before they can try again. And if the trouble started earlier, a Brush up link sits right there on the lesson, naming the concept this one builds on — those links reach back to Grade 5.

Then they have to explain it
Passing the quiz unlocks Master, and multiple choice ends there. Your child writes or speaks the answer in their own words, and it's marked out of 10 against the same three criteria every time. Seven clears the rung.
On Maths concepts the order is solve it, then explain how you solved it — because an answer copied off a friend doesn't survive the second question. There's an Expert rung above that for kids who want it; it's a bonus, never a requirement, and it isn't what a goal is measured on.

I took away 5 from both sides so the x part was on its own, which left 3x = 15. Then I split both sides into 3 equal parts, so x = 5. I checked it by putting 5 back in and it gave 20.
What keeps them opening it
Points for work actually done, a day streak they'd rather not break, badges, and a Goals tab showing how close the next reward is. That's the whole motivation layer — no leaderboards, no in-app currency, nothing to buy.

You set the reward. They get a say in the deal.
A goal is a specific piece of learning: a few concepts, a whole chapter, or a whole subject. You attach whatever reward makes sense in your house — pizza night, an hour of cricket, ₹200. Your child can counter-propose from their side, and you can go back and forth up to three times before it's agreed. It's a negotiation, which is most of the point.
ChapterLens doesn't hand out the reward. There's no voucher and no in-app prize — we tell you when it's been earned, and you're the one who delivers it. That's the part a child actually cares about.

Open the dashboard whenever you want to know
Chapter by chapter: what's mastered, what's part-done, and what needs you. Every “mastered” on it is backed by an explanation your child wrote and a mark it cleared.
You go and look — we don't message you. There's no push notification, no WhatsApp summary and no weekly email yet. Some parents check on a Sunday; some check when a report card lands.

When the exam is close
Your child can take a quick test any time, and you can switch on a full exam test from your dashboard: questions drawn across a chapter's concepts, worth one to four marks each. It's a fixed paper — they can move around it freely, come back to anything they skipped, and get part marks for partial working. It comes back as a mark out of the total, not a percentage and not a grade.
